Welcome to our Website …

The Lions Club of Chippenham is a group of men and women who are well known around Chippenham and Corsham for our Christmas Carol Float and our Cherished Vehicle and Family Fun Day – but we do much more than that, we aim to hold one fundraiser each month and to give all that we raise back to charity.

You can use this site to learn more about the things we do and how we raise money and how we donate it. You can also contact us – to request our help or to be part of the action by following the Contact Us menu tab above.

If you are trying to reach our specialist website for the Cherished Vehicle and Family Fun Day then it’s just a click away on the right.

The Headlines …

A Race Night With Westbury Lions …

On 22 March, we helped Westbury Lions to raise a useful total of £450.

Our 50th Charter Celebrations …

The club passed a significant milestone in February this year by celebrating the 50th Anniversary of our Charter to commemorate our founding back in 1974. And we did it in style at a formal dinner at ‘The Barn’ at Lowden Garden Centre. President Jim Dutch lead the gathering and there were over 100 guests in attendance including friends, members from other Lions Clubs as well as Rotary and the Chippenham Mayor. There was, of course, an appropriate cake which was cut by President Jim and by Julie Hamlen – the daughter of Charter Member, Bob Cook. And to top our evening off, we had a visit from Elvis who gyrated his way through a set of his greatest hits and sounding as fresh as he was in 1974.

Christmas 2023 …

We have now completed our Christmas fundraisers for 2023 by running a Christmas Bazaar, manning two mulled wine stalls, collecting in Morrisons and touring Corsham and Chippenham with the Carol Float over 18 nights. After a short rest the club will be embarking on the 2024 programme which you can find in the ‘Upcoming Events’ column.

Lions and Rotary work together to help Dorothy House …

The two Chippenham clubs were delighted to work together recently on a project to open some of the further-most spaces in the 15 acres estate of Dorothy House Hospice. They helped to create a path to provide access to spaces for solace and support to those facing bereavement and grief.

Presidents of both clubs had separately selected Dorothy House, Hospice Care as their chosen charities, so this project provides a wonderful opportunity for inter-club cooperation.

The Complainers help us to Fundraise

We held a Pop Evening on Saturday 14 October to raise funds and ‘The Complainers’ from Kington Langley did us proud with 2 hours of the best guitar music from the 60s, 70s and 80s.. With a ploughman’s at half time the evenings pleasure was complete and we were able to raise nearly £1300 for Lions Charities.

We Sell Refreshments at Chippenham Half Marathon …

We set up our refreshment centre at Chippenham Half Marathon on Sunday 17 September  to sell teas, coffees, cakes and more at the Chippenham half marathon to runners and visitors alike. A good day in which we raised £502 with all profit going to Lions Charities.

Here we see the morning team just raring to go.

We Collect at Castle Combe Circuit …

On August Bank Holiday Monday a team of 9 of us were given the run of the circuit to collect on behalf of Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The weather was comfortable and we had a good day out in record crowds to collect about £670.

We Hold a Presentation Evening …

At the end of every Lionistic year we have an evening of presentations to local organisations within our Corsham and Chippenham catchment area. The mayor was in attendance and we invited organisational representatives along to receive their donations and to remind us of the good work they do within our community. This year we are pleased to say that we gave away well over £10,000 through the evening.

We have a new President for the 2023/4 Year …

Our Lionistic year starts on 1 July and, for our 50th year of our endeavour, the leadership was passed from Jeff Daws to Jim Dutch in a ‘changeover’ evening of dining, conviviality and good spirit,

Each year the Club President chooses local charities to concentrate on, and this year Jim has chosen Dorothy House, Hospice Care. The club will, of course, also continue to donate to other local charities.

Jim, Our President for 2023/24 …

Jim Dutch is our new President and has been married to Babs for nearly 50 years.  He is a retired Chartered Surveyor and has lived in Chippenham all his life. He is a great fan of Chippenham and is looking forward to his third term as president in what will be the Club’s 50th Anniversary.

Jim is passionate about the Carol Float and, along with his committee, will be making preparations for the annual tour of Chippenham at Christmas time.

Each year the Club President chooses local charities to concentrate on, and this year Jim has chosen Dorothy House, Hospice Care.  The club will, of course, also continue to donate to other local charities and you can see how we donated our funds in previous years by going to the Community Service menu item above.

If you would like to help us to fund any of these charities, then we have installed a Donate link above for you to use. It’s so easy.

The Lions Club of Chippenham …

The Lions Club of Chippenham is one of those 44,500 clubs across the world that are part of Lions Clubs International and each year we raise about £30,000 for local causes and international charities. Lions believe that local people are best placed to provide help and support to less fortunate members of the community in Chippenham, Corsham and the surrounding villages.

On a local level, the activities in which the Club become involved include:

Fund Raising on behalf of various local charities including Air Ambulance, Dorothy House and Transport for the Disabled as well as individual assistance to local needy, aged and disadvantaged persons.

Community Service Work to provide entertainment, outings and sporting facilities as well as providing hot dinners on Christmas Day for those spending Christmas alone.

The Club also provides funds to assist at an international level and supports:

  • Eye Camps and Water Wells in the Third World
  • Assistance to the Aged, Blind and the Deaf
  • Help with emergency disaster relief anywhere in the world

As well as this work, every month Chippenham Lions enjoy at least one social event – an informal or formal night, or a picnic, trip or visit to the theatre or something similar.

Lions International Organisation …

Lions are members of community service clubs, dedicated to the idea that the men and women who live in a community are in the best position to know who needs help and why. More than 44,500 strong, these local clubs are part of the world’s largest such organisation, with 1.4 million members serving in more than 180 countries and areas. The association is both non-political and non-sectarian. Lions are proud that The Financial Times has ranked Lions Clubs International Foundation as – “the best among non-government organisations worldwide with which to work”
